Holy moley. Jess and I have been busy. There were a few things that we wanted to do this weekend and we actually got out there and did them. On Saturday morning, we got up early and headed out to all-the-way-Western Massachusetts to check out two possible wedding spots in the Berkshires. We *really* liked the Cranwell Resort and Spa and Chris, their wedding coordinator lady. was very friendly and informative. I actually took Jess to Cranwell for our 5 year dating anniversary so we already knew about the incredible food and the excellent service. We snapped a few photos of the important spots and posted them over at our Otherpea site so that our families can take a look. The ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception areas would be the front lawn, patio/lounge areas, and ballroom respectively.
We stopped for lunch at Joe's Diner. Apparently, the diner was depicted in Norman Rockwell's "The Runaway". I'm not sure how they knew that it wasn't some other place, but my ham sandwich and ginger ale hit the spot so I didn't ask.
After the wedding scouting and an excited phone call to Jess' parents, we headed up to Salem NH to pick up Decemberists tickets. The band is playing at the Big Easy Blues Club in Portland, Maine and for some reason tickets can *only* be purchased in person at a certain small music store chain. Now I've just got to find a cheap hotel in Portland because it will probably be more fun to spend the night than to drive 2 hours home after the show. Plus, if we stay then we can hit the Delta Cafe for a Cajun Sunday breakfast and I can get me some scrambled eggs with crawfish. Yum.
Today, we shuffled down to the Harvard Square Oktoberfest to catch Mieka Pauley play a set. She kicked ass and drew a big crowd. We sat in the front, clapped and took pictures that Jess will be posting and sharing with Mieka. Most of the songs that she performed were new ones and we bought her latest demo CD for $8.
Hey - I wasn't kidding when I said that we only had apples and beer in our refrigerator. Jess just made dinner (thanks!!) and we're having pumpkin beer, sliced apples, and fried eggs with potatoes. What a spread! I didn't even know that we had potatoes.
