This song could very well be all over MTV and the radio - I have no idea. I'm a hermit these days - I spend all my free time working on Ravelry! Anyway - here it is: Speaker - by David Banner with Snoop, Akon, Lil Wayne. This is the clean version - the durty version is on YouTube.

Whoa - I was checking out the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim site 'cause David Banner has a cartoon about Mississippi and it looks like there is a Drinky Crow show? Nice!

Random enough for you? Gotta break the silence somehow.

cover Hell yeah - Tom Waits' 3 disc collection of Orphans comes out in November.

"Gathering all this material together was like rounding up chickens at the beach. It's not like you go into vault and check out what you need. Most of it was lost or buried under the house. Some of the tapes I had to pay ransom for to a plumber in Russia.

Enjoy this free track: Lost at the Bottom of the World.

Download MP3 of "La Maree Haute".

I just discovered Lhasa's 2003 release "The Living Road". The first time that I played it, I listened to it 4 times in a row. Lhasa's voice is bewitching and the accompaniment is careful and beautiful .

If you liked the sample above, you can get a few more short MP3s from the RootsWorld review page. ..and whaddya know? The label, Nettwerk, will actually sell you the album in MP3 format for 10 bucks. Good job, Nettwerk.

PS - A note for the 10 people that Feedburner says are subscribed to this podcast: I have another place where I post MP3s from the albums that I'm currently playing - http://www.nerdle.com/blog/music/heavyrotation/index.rss20. (click the feed link for a handy iTunes subscribe button)

Update, a few minutes later : ah, what the hell. I'm putting in a medium quality (64 kbps) copy of the whole song.

Bettye LaVette released "I've Got My Own Hell To Raise" on Anti Records last month. Man, this is a great album. Bettye's voice is amazing - she packs the lyrics (mostly cover songs) so full of emotion and feeling. She could carry the whole album acapella, but then we'd miss out on the great bluesy and funky backing band.

Check out MP3s of "Down to Zero" and "The High Road".
I wish that samples of some of the more upbeat tracks were available on the web...

It's Friday and I am *so* burned out. Work has been dragging lately and I've been trying to start up a new web project of my own at home but I'm not making much progress. Jess needs my help with an event she is planning - hopefully I can manage to not be a grumpy zombie.

In lieu of a real post, you get another MP3. Here is "Mince Meat" from Danger Doom. DD is the MF Doom and DJ Danger Mouse teamup where they play with themes and samples from Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. yep. The label site sez:

"The album will contain character voices and skits from Adult Swim's most popular original shows, including Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021 and Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law."

One more scattered thought - I checked out the Quintron web site to see if they were safe and if they had managed to rescue their instruments from the flood (Mr. Quintron and Miss Pussycat are coming to Cambridge in November). They are okay. Quintron had this to say and the "Cajun Atlantis" has stuck in my mind all day :

as far as what is happening.......i don't know what the fuck is happening.....this is biblical and it is breaking my heart to see New Orleans burnt, flooded, neglected, ethnically cleansed, and basically shoved underwater to drown........but we can breath underwater. Cajun Atlantis has just begun to emerge and the moment those fuckers let us back in the gates, we are going straight to the gun store and then to the boat bar for all the free drinks we can drink. Thank you all for everything.
